TABE® Testing Support

TABE

The Arizona Department of Education requires HSE students to complete a progress assessment every 40 hours of instruction. This is NOT a pass/fail test - this is a progress check.

Information About Your Test Day

  • Get enough sleep, eat something, and use the restroom before the progress check.
  • Bring a non-expired photo ID (pictures & copies will NOT be accepted).
  • If you need to reschedule, contact your success coach or the front desk.
  • You might be at risk of losing your spot in the class if you do not show up to your appointment.

  • You are ready for this! Take deep breaths and remain calm.
  • You will have 1 hour and 50 minutes for Reading and 1 hour and 25 minutes for Math.
  • Both Reading and Math have Part 1 and Part 2 sections. A brief break is allowed between the two sections.
  • Reading and Math can be taken on different days. If you have to leave before completing the entire test, you can complete a test section (for example, part 2) on a different day - but it has to be within the same calendar month.
  • If there is an issue with the assessment or you need help with something, raise your hand or go to the counter and ask the Testing employee for assistance.
  • Read each question carefully.
  • Don’t leave any items blank - take your best guess; trust your gut.
  • Don’t spend too much time on one question. You can Flag difficult questions and return to them at the end if you have time.
  • Don’t use the Pause button - it is for students with accommodations (for more information, talk to your coach).
  • Don’t click Exit until you are done with the very last question and ready to finish.
  • During Math, look for a built-in calculator - it will appear on the toolbar at the top for some questions. You will also get a paper and pencil from the Testing employee to work out Math problems.
  • Thank you for completing your progress check! You’ve got this!

  • Check in with the Testing employee before leaving to ensure testing is completed.
  • If your class has not ended yet, please return to your classroom.
  • Ask for a copy of your scores from your teacher. It usually takes 2-3 days for them to be available. Meet with the teacher or success coach to go over your scores once they are available. Teachers use your results to create an individualized learning plan that targets your strengths and your areas of improvement. Check if you qualify for a GED Ready® voucher.
